Design Committee Meeting
AGENDA
April 8, 2020
Noon
Conference call: 712-451-0897 Access: 698020
DRAFT
Attendees: Will Grimes, Kristin Pleasanton, Dawn Melson, Rosie Mujica, Tina Bradbury, Diane Laird
Approval of Minutes (Feb.) – Motion duly made by Dawn and Will and approved unanimously.
• Work Plan 2020 final review
• “Spring Into Action” – Merchants and property owners may not be ready to consider this at this
time, so hold off on survey until further notice.
• Mural or other art project 2020 and potential grant request- Currently RCD and D3 are doing
murals. Consider instead a portable mural, to be used as an attraction for on-site survey and
other uses: learn about downtown, survey people or engage for input with fun questions. Design
of something that represents downtown…”Shop, Eat, Explore, Repeat”; identify various events
and buildings of downtown. Maybe a chalkboard in the center, with frame being the art, and
center is the question or event. Aspect that could include promo items/booklets, possibly even a
“senior informational section” to identify ideas/programs/activities for seniors: AARP tax
preparation/senior feeding area. Volunteers could be engaged in promoting whatever is on the
board. Seniors could be involved in the project. John Waters is a very qualified professional
artist who the committee could engage to develop the design/implement the artwork. Maybe
City of Dover Parks and Rec could help store it. City-wide events could store. Wheels, awning,
lightweight. Committee members are asked to research pictures of portable kiosk and get images
to Diane by close of business next Tuesday.
• Josh finished all parts of birds mural and Dover post card is finished, with exception of a small
branch below cardinal. Consider plaque providing interpretation/key to each mural, recognize the
building owner at time of mural installation. Or QR – code. Elena to research cost of plaque for
building.
• Workplan: Date correction. Draft plan is good as is, with exception of possible inclusion of above-
discussed portable art project (AARP grant funding, if achieved.)
• Public Comments - N/A DJL
Next Meeting Date: Wed, May 13, 2020 - 12:00 pm (To be confirmed.)
The Design Committee will work to improve the appearance of the downtown Dover area and to educate
