Design Committee Meeting 10/13/21 ▪Diane said the issue had been moved to the safety committee but there would be planters installed on the steps with Oregon grape holly which are beautiful but also deter loitering. Diane said in general vagrancy has been down. o Artisan Market ▪ Diane said they had been open a month and encouraged committee members to patronize them. There are 25 different vendors that offer food and non-perishable items and they will need to be supported. Currently they are open Thursday-Sunday. o Parking Committee update ▪ Designs have been finalized and approved by the Board. Diane will bring the approved plans to the Council for final approval. Plan may evolve to support the Master Plan. • Merchant Holiday window contest themes, dates, judges o Rosie is going to do a story walk downtown and the theme would be based upon the final book chosen. She would email ideas out to committee members for input. The windows should be ready for Small Business Saturday, which is Saturday, November 27th so the program should be advertised by the first week in November. Judging should be done by December 15th. The awards will be as follows: ▪ People’s Choice – Category unanimously removed ▪ Mayor’s Choice – TBD ▪ First Place - $200 ▪ Second Place - $150 ▪ Third Place - $100 ▪ Honorable Mention(s) - $50 Laura and Jennifer will be judges this year. • New Business/Projects o DSU – Window decorating – Tina offered them space at 136 Loockerman to decorate. Her contact is Dawn Mosley at DSU. Homecoming is October 23rd and Jennifer said she’d “plant some seeds” about having a presence downtown. o DSU – Banners – There is a desire to incorporate DSU into the banners on Loockerman. Kristin pointed out that there is a need for 55 more arms to accommodate the banners that we already have and inquired about the status of those replacement arms. It was decided that we should order all new banners and all new arms to accommodate the new banners. Tina said the problem with the banner installation was that staff were tied up with other projects. Elena asked if we could pay a contractor to do the necessary installation needed and was told that we could not hire outside contractors to do work on city property. Tina said she would ask city staff again. • Public Comments o None Next Meeting Date: Wednesday, November 10 The Design Committee will work to improve the appearance of the downtown Dover area and to educate the public and private sector about good design principles.
