Downtown Dover Partnership
Design Committee Meeting
June 8, 2022
12PM via Zoom
Attendance: Jordan Resh, Elena Stewart, Canzetta Young, Roger Ridgeway, Jennifer Gunther, Reginald
Daniel, Tina Bradbury, Diane Laird, Laura Parks, Dawn Melson-Williams, Kim Adams
Stewart opened the meeting at 12:00 p.m.
Gunther motioned to approve the last meeting minutes. Young seconded the motion, and the
committee unanimously approve the minutes.
Agenda Approval?
Meeting
Laird expressed that she is unsure if the banners are vibrant enough when they are hanging downtown
and if the words were difficult to read. Laird suggested working with the graphics company making the
banners for other options before spending the estimated $15,000-$20,000.
Laird proposed removing the letters that are difficult to read or using a design from DSU to add a DSU
banner. Laird suggested looking at a wider variety of designs to find the best fit for downtown.
Young shared that DSU has a banner design for downtown campus and Route 13. Young noted that DSU
would be able to provide banners and would just need to receive a request from the DDP. Bradbury
responded that the size may not match the banners downtown and may be a different material. Laird
suggested checking the sizing and material first to rule out the option of using DSU’s existing banners.
Young said that her boss needs to know what the actual cost is/ask, and needs to reach out to DSU
marketing person, which will be easier in the summer without so many students on campus. Young said
she will share what material and size banners they have available from DSU.
Stewart asked Parks if the banner company suggested changes to the graphics. Parks shared that the
only changes were to allow for stitching, but the designer gave no other recommendations.
Laird noted again that vibrancy is lost when seen from a vehicle and driving past. Laird suggested
exploring ready-made designs from the banner company.
Parks noted that the orange stood out and that the banners could other more vibrant colors, but they
would not match DDP’s branding. Laird responded that there is more vibrancy in the current banners,
and that the proposed banners do not look as vibrant hung up as they do on paper.
Parks said she will not be able to provide any additional designs.
Daniel suggested using a more contrasting color to draw attention to the design. Laird responded that
the design, rather than the colors, lack vibrancy. Laird noted that the committee could still proceed with
the banner designs, but that other options should be explored.

Stewart noted that the old banners rely on storytelling instead of icons. Laird responded that the old
banners also allow for more color variety than the new designs.
Parks said she will reach out to the banner design company for additional advice.
Parks asked for feedback about the Farmer’s Market banner. Laird shared that the banner stood out
more but that the orange did not connect with the other banner designs as well.
Stewart asked if the holiday design should still be used. Laird shared that the holiday banners will likely
be good, but that an additional background color is needed to order the banners. Parks responded that
she could find another color for the holiday banners. Bradbury shared that the holiday banners need
four banner colors because that is how it has been ordered previously.
Bradbury shared that DSU announced that additional students will be on the DSU Downtown campus
next semester, and the committee should work to have the banners up before the students move in.
Young shared that August 25th students will return to DSU for the Fall semester.
Stewart asked if the arms can be ordered in advance, and Bradbury shared that she would work with the
vendor to order them.
Stewart suggested not meeting in July to conduct business via email, and then meet in August to further
the plan.
Young asked for updates on the mural, and Bradbury shared that the family is going through personal
hurdles and will be reached out to later.
Stewart asked for clarity on the order date for the banners, and Bradbury suggested that ordering by the
end of the month is ideal. Bradbury asked Young to share the image of the DSU banners as well. Young
suggested meeting with representatives of DSU to update them on the progress of the design plan.
No public comments.
Meeting adjourned at 12:30p.m.
