ENHANCEMENT COMMITTEE
DECEMBER 11, 2007
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOVER, IN COUNCIL MET:
That Appendix B - Zoning Ordinance, Article 5 – Supplementary Regulations, Section 1-
Supplementary Regulations Applying to Residence Zones be amended by inserting a new
subsection as follows:
1.10 Portable Storage Units. For the purpose of this section the following definitions
shall apply:
Portable storage unit means any container designed for the storage of personal
property which is typically rented to owners or occupants of property for their
temporary use and which is delivered and removed by truck.
1.101 Number, Duration, and Removal. There shall be no more than one portable storage
unit per lot. No portable storage unit shall remain on a lot in a residential district in
excess of thirty consecutive days, unless the lot is the subject of an active building
permit, in which case it may remain as long as the building permit is active.
1.102 Cumulative Time Restriction. No portable storage unit as defined in Section 1.10
of this Article shall be placed at any one site in a residential district in excess of sixty
days in any calendar year, unless the lot is the subject of an active building permit.
1.103 Location. The location of the portable storage unit shall not affect the health,
safety and/or welfare of the neighborhood including, but not limited to, blocking access
to a fire hydrant and obstructing the view of street intersections.
Synopsis: This ordinance would limit the amount of time
that a portable storage unit could be located on a
residential lot.
