Design Committee mtg minutes – 11/9/2022
In Attendance: Kristin, Diane, Tina, Laura, Jennifer, Elena, Carrie, Dawn, Roger
Agenda approved
Minutes correction presented by Elena - $1,400 raised at DAL reception. Minutes approved with change.
Michael Dudich, Director of the Biggs Museum, guest to meeting
-Engaging community for future growth and programming; looking at 3-5 year, $15-20 million dollar
project with capital campaign in the works; will change the footprint of the building; holding public
meetings and focus groups currently; full calendar of events for Nov and Art Deco glass exhibition now
on view; rebranding campaign for the museum will begin soon; looking forward to more collaborations
and connections with Downtown Dover.
Diane suggested someone formally reach out to Michael Dudich and invite him to join the committee.
Elena and Carrie can send him an email invite.
Dover Welcomes DSU downtown
-Tina presented design added to downtown windows that was created by a DSU student, Jeffiah
Boardley (sp?). Thanks to Jennifer for connecting with the student. They were created in time for DSU
Homecoming weekend.
Holiday Window Decorating
-There were some really good theme suggestions presented; The word “Christmas” should be replaced
by “Holiday(s)”; People’s Choice should be on Facebook; Tina would like to have a decision on theme at
this meeting; Thought was that the theme should be as inclusive as possible; Theme chosen was “City of
Lights”; Judges were suggested including Kent County Tourism person, Jennifer and DSU students, City
Electric Dept.; Dec. 9 was suggested as date for judging (same night as parade); Windows should be
decorated by Dec. 1
Holiday Downtown Decorations
-Roger reported on timeline for decorating and everything should be completed by Nov. 23
Downtown Banners
-Diane had suggestions for banners that included artist produced work as is done in Easton, MD with
their Plein Air artists’ work; cost seems very affordable; Elena talked about plan for banners that
includes artwork banners and using Laura’s design for holiday banners; Diane will get more information
and prices; Diane suggested using the DSU banners hung for Homecoming be used as part of the
banners hung downtown on a regular basis
Elena – Dover Art League update
-Elena was asked to resign by the board president; Her contributions to the DAL included replaced tiles
and lights upstairs; heat was restored upstairs; led subcommittee that held grand reopening party;
taught a kids art class; hosted a tour of DSU students; secured a treasurer for the board; contributed
grant opportunities and promoted community involvement and collaborations; Diane stated that her
resignation was disappointing to hear and believes that the entire board was not in agreement with the
president’s action.
No public comment, meeting was adjourned at 1:00pm
