DDP Design Committee Meeting
Minutes
January 9, 2019 12:00PM, CenDel Foundation Building
I. Call to order – Tricia, Design Committee Vice-Chair (until arrival of Kristin)
II. Roll call – Members present: Tricia Arndt, Kristin Pleasanton, Elena Stewart, Dawn
Melson-Williams, Will Grimes; DDP Staff: Diane, Brynn, and Rosie
III. Approval of Minutes– Minutes of the November 14, 2018 were approved; Will made
motion; Elena seconded motion; and unanimously carried.
IV. New Business
a. Façade Grant Applications:
The Wedding Boutique at 125A West Loockerman Street: Proposed for a new protecting
sign to be attached to existing bracket and window signage for 12-inch sign band at
bottom of windows. Total project cost of $750 and request for $357.50. Discussion of
proposal. Motion by Elena seconded by Will and approved to provide Grant Award of
$357.50 for signage project. Advise applicant that they are responsible for obtaining Sign
Permit from City (it is not the responsibility of the DDP). Recommend that the font
utilized for the window signage be the same as the font on the hanging sign.
b. Downtown Holiday Lights/Banner: Discuss of Lights and Banners and timing of reinstall
of Banners following removal of the wreaths. The String Lights are likely year-round.
The Holly Banners were not installed this holiday season due to the wreaths but that is
being reconsidered for the future. Committee suggestion to skip install of Holly Banners
this year if close to timing for the Spring – Mixed set (flag, bike, music, tulips, etc.)
installation timing. DDP will be working on a Banner plan with the City (Robin E. and
City Manager) for next year.
V. Old Business
a. Holiday Window Context: Very successful with 25 windows and awarding of $800 to
winners of 1st, 2nd & 3rd Places, Mayors Choice, Peoples Choice, and Honorable
Mentions. Use of Survey Monkey for Peoples Choice voting with 265 votes. Discussion
that windows should use ‘new’ items (not reuse same from prior year). It was noted that
the Holiday Parade will remain at night but will be a different week.
b. Mitten & Winters Mural Update: Mural work has started with prepping of cloth and will
be ready for Painting soon. Painting on February 1st during First Friday Event as a
Trolley Stop at Wesley College. Mural also available at Longwood Hall on Tuesday-
Thursdays from 2-5pm to paint.
a. Idea for Participants of Mural Painting: Design a Sticker to give to “Mural
Artists”. Check at Staples for printable stickers and create design including DDP
Star Logo.
b. Update on Harrington Mural: Two artists are working to develop view of Historic
Loockerman Street as two scene designs in sepia tones. The design will be
reviewed by the owner and by the Design Committee.
