Dover Interfaith Mission to the Homeless (684 Forest Street)
The shelter received $60,000 in CDBG funding to renovate an existing building that
services up to 150 homeless men annually. Before the renovations, there were 5 separate
office buildings that were utilized as separate businesses. Since the renovations, the
shelter has been converted into one large facility that includes the intake office in the
front of the building, the living quarters for the men, a dining room and a large kitchen.
49 South Kirkwood Street (CDBG rehab)
CDBG funds were utilized to renovate a single family home to install a heating system
and fully renovate the bathroom which included the installation of the bathtub, vanity and
toilet.
Downtown Streets Project
CDBG funds were utilized to reconstruct the streets and curbs in the Downtown Target
Area. The streets that were repaired include South New Street, North New Street, North
Queen Street and North Kirkwood Street.
Habitat for Humanity (101 Jefferson Court)
Habitat for Humanity purchased 101 Jefferson Court to fully renovate in order to provide
affordable housing to a low income family. Habitat received a CDBG grant for $40,000
to assist with the cost to fully renovate this home and bring it up to code. This home was
sold to a family who was living in a shelter on February 23, 2011.
218 Ann Avenue (NSP Home)
This home was purchased by Dover Housing Authority who is the sub-grantee of the
city’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to acquire foreclosed properties,
renovate them and resale them to qualifying families. This property was the first home
sold through the NSP program which made homeownership possible for a former
subsidized housing resident.
Mitscher Road Streets Project (CDBG-R)
In 2009, the city received American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding in
the amount of $73,000 to be utilized for infrastructure projects in the city. ARRA
funding was used for the construction of sidewalks on Mitscher Road.
Dover Parks and Recreation (White Oak Road location)
CDBG funds were utilized to make this facility handicap accessible. The sidewalks from
White Oak Road to the pavilion were made accessible for wheelchairs to enter the park.
Entrance doors to the facility were also made handicap accessible.
