ACTION FORM PROCEEDING: Safety Advisory & Transportation Committee AGENDA ITEM NO.: 2 DEPARTMENT OF ORIGIN: Planning & Inspections (Fire Marshal) DATE SUBMITTED: Nov 6, 2006 PREPARED BY: David Truax Fire Marshal SUBJECT: Maintaining a Known Fire Code Violation or Hazard REFERENCE: N/A RELATED PROJECT: N/A APPROVALS: N/A EXHIBITS: N/A EXPENDITURE REQUIRED: $ AMOUNT BUDGETED: $ FUNDING SOURCE (Dept./Page in CIP & Budget): N/A TIMETABLE: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adoption of Ordinance by January of 2007 BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS The proposed ordinance amendment would provide the Fire Marshal with a means to take corrective action when property owners and/or tenants have been made aware of fire code violations and continue to maintain the hazard or violation. It will also help to insure that violations do not go uncorrected for long periods of time, and to make it more costly to pay the fine than to fix the violations. The proposed amendment was prepared with the assistance of Deputy City Solicitor Pepper.
