Play from 1:25:38Mar 9, 2026, Regular Council Meeting

Play from 1:57:07Mar 9, 2026, Regular Council Meeting
Uh thank you, Mr. President. Uh I am definitely going to uh vote in favor of this ordinance. I I hate to see anything that adds um burdensome cost, but uh I always feel that a home inspection is um just like having an attorney. It is something that you really need to protect yourself and and your family. Uh I would like to, I don't know about if uh the the lady would be eligible, but I would recommend um that she checks out uh the home repair fund that exists through the the city, which is um uh administered by Milford Housing Development Corporation. She looks looks up Milford Housing and and calls to see, because uh some of the types of repairs that are mentioned are are made to order for that if she qualifies. Um and a lot of people do that don't think they would.

and coming here tonight. It's uh um yeah, especially uh moving uh around a couple times uh. But I had a couple questions regarding the wanted to focus on two areas. One is uh going back to housing and and zoning and the the housing gap, because we are losing people. I speak with people all the time. Um just recently uh someone making about $40,000 a year uh afraid that that soon he won't be able to afford to live here. And uh that used to be good money.

Play from 21:34Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
So, what type of Pardon me. Right, so what type of uh uh regulatory changes or zoning changes would help uh to move us to more as we to affordable and workforce housing, as well as other types? I mean, we we're looking at uh at some uh updates coming up, and one of the reasons why I was hoping for a for a couple presentations on this is just to inform the conversation as we uh begin to enter into uh legislation. So uh do you have any particular insights?
Play from 21:34Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
Yeah. Now, now when it comes to uh uh I think the some of the best money we spend, I think the best $50,000 we spend is with KEP uh is because there there's been so much capital investment brought into the city, and new tax revenue, new uh uh electric, water, etc. Uh when it comes to the the next step in in jobs, what where do you see you you had a certain target before, has that changed or adjusted any? Uh where where are we, what are we looking for next?
Play from 23:29Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting

I'm amenable to calling him. But by the way, we wouldn't be required even if we were to recuse because we receive no benefits. However, that is, there is no provision in the city ethics code at all as long as you have...

Play from 1:16:32Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting

Play from 1:16:38Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting

Play from 1:17:31Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting

It's, it's something that you have, not only you have no interest in, but, but have no future interest in. But you know...
Play from 1:20:27Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
Thank you. Now, I will say the code is clear and bright on that, there is no issue there. Now, we're going to have the hearing, but I'm going to turn over the chairing of this particular item to someone else. Council President, would you like to chair this particular item?

Play from 1:29:46Feb 26, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
Oh, thank you, Mr. President. One of the things I I do agree with um quite frankly with uh a lot of what Ms. Paul said is that this this council voted for a downtown policing unit, and we've yet to it get any motion on it. Um something you know something's got to happen. It That was a professional recommendation. Uh that's not something we came up with, but it was a professional recommendation from our police department.
