Play from 1:36:03Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
Thank you. Um, I will have to say, not even being the one, but I I I think you gave some very specifics. So, that it was detailed to me. My other question is, so you have work done, have all your contractors been paid already? Or do you have outstanding contracts that are required to be paid that's dependent on this or or have have you met your other obligations?
Play from 1:49:32Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
So So you you by your own and pardon pardon. Uh, they're they're much highly more, you know, more educated in my little masters degree and so. Um, my question is, at the very basic level, you indicated that you you received some substantial funding from uh from other areas. Um, did you just mention DuPont and then 200 or 300 so other money from somewhere else, and then we discuss some other funding.
Play from 1:50:33Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
Um, so so why is it that asset which amounts to what which which doesn't amount to a significant portion of the pie Uh, it is a good portion of the pie, but not significant. Why can't you continue that work until with the other funding?
Play from 1:51:05Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
We owe you?
Play from 1:51:35Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
Okay. I I don't I don't Well, I hear you, but I want to stay on my track. I don't I'm not going to go back to that.
Play from 1:52:32Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
No, I have I have specific questions.
Play from 1:52:38Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
So So I look forward We're going We're going to answer the questions specifically. We're not going to do that song and dance. You know, I'm one of the most respectful people here, so let's let's stay here. I I I get testimonial work. I I have given to People's Place. I give. I love, you know, and I don't take pictures. That's my problem. So now here's my So let's get back to to this without the the the purse strings. Let's talk about these numbers.
Play from 1:52:41Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
My question is what if if all this other funding exists and if you are demonstrating good faith and and our, who you who you describe as an excellent employee, came and said, "Hey, they're still using that funding to move this project along." And then it was brought back to us to say, "Hey, they are using these resources to their other resources to bring the project." So if you have all of this other money and all of these other champions, why why does the project have to stop now with us, with $40,000?
Play from 1:53:26Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
I'm not not not a drop in the bucket, but at the at the totality of the project. And you you stated that there are other moneys that could be used, and you're not using them for to to help the community for which we all love, for which we all hope that one day turn it around. I'm a child of an individual who was an addict. My father does AA meetings. That's part of his recovery now. So I'm sensitive to that. So so I that I want y'all to know. My heart goes out to everybody, but I'm a child of that.
Play from 1:54:03Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
So I definitely have an issue that if you're if you if we're not using the money for real rehabilitation, that this if we're just dressing up offices, if we're just putting nice fancy couches in, then I have an issue. I want to see individuals' lives turned around as well. So I'm going back to my other question.
Play from 1:54:44Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting

There you are. I was waiting. So, you know, I heard through Reggie emails and they were very appreciative and they were walking their children now or with a little bit more, uh, comfort and, um, enjoying, uh, their neighborhood a little more. Play from 2:33:35Sep 29, 2026, Council Committee of the Whole Meeting
All right, thank you. My uh only concern, and and and again, I'm I'm happy that we're seeing results is that we have other neighborhoods who have the same issue. Um, and then pretty soon we'll have a a city with with streets that are not accessible because they too have concerns um over in they're not here today, believe it or not, uh uh um Lincoln Park, that whole that area. So, you know, you know, we often, you know, hear about the challenges that they have over there, so, you know, once we do it in one place, and then we set what we call a precedent, and uh precedent, and then we have to do permanent structures and then our city uh look a little interesting. Um, and the safety impact will be um um um the challenges to our safety uh with fire and police, et cetera, will will will be will will increase of them assessing roads. So that's my only concern about doing that. I do believe we should do something, but maybe not as permanent structure and gates, et cetera. Um, so that's that. I think uh Councilman Lewis has uh raised his hand again. The chair recognizes Councilman Lewis.
