AskDover

Accessibility

AskDover is for everyone in Dover. If something on this site gets in your way, we want to know.

What we aim for

We build AskDover to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is more than the law asks of city and county websites.

We also aim for strong contrast, links and buttons big enough to tap, pages that still work zoomed to 400% or with large text, plain words, and every page in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.

How we check

We test every kind of page on phones and computers with automated checks, and by hand with a keyboard. We have not yet tested with people who use a screen reader or other tools every day, and we would like to.

What does not work well yet

  • Some pages are only in English. We are translating them.
  • Spanish and Haitian Creole pages are translated by AI and are not reviewed by a person.
  • Many City and school district documents, such as agendas and minutes, are scanned PDF files. Where we can, we show their text on the page so a screen reader can read it.
  • Maps show the same places as the lists next to them. If a map is hard to use, use the list.
